The countdown to World Mental Health Day 2025 on 10 October has begun. This year’s theme, “Access to Services – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies”, highlights a pressing global reality: when life is most disrupted, mental health care is often least accessible.
At Oxford Minds Therapy, we believe mental health support is not a luxury, but a lifeline. Whether facing the aftershock of a global crisis or a deeply personal loss, access to services can make the difference between isolation and resilience.

Why This Theme Matters
The World Health Organization reports that 1 in 5 people living in conflict-affected areas experience depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia. In the UK, the Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Survey confirms that those exposed to sudden trauma or catastrophe are at higher risk of long-term mental illness. At the same time, NHS Digital (2024) found that over 1.6 million adults in England are waiting for mental health treatment, leaving many without timely help.
As a practitioner, I see how catastrophes—whether personal (bereavement, job loss, illness) or global (conflict, climate emergencies)—can destabilise lives. That is why I am committed to offering personalised therapy that clients can access online ensuring support is never out of reach.

The Oxford Minds Therapy Approach
We prepare for resilience through our ABC framework:
- Acknowledging: Recognising the shock, fear, or grief that arises when emergencies strike.
- Believing: Helping clients rediscover hope through therapy, NLP, and hypnotherapy—believing recovery is possible.
- Combating: Equipping people with practical tools like grounding, reframing, and personalised coping plans to combat anxiety and trauma.
This approach is holistic, personalised, and adaptable—designed to support individuals while aligning with global calls for better mental health access in emergencies.

A Global & Local Responsibility
Worldwide, professionals are calling for stronger integration of mental health into emergency response systems. Locally, at Oxford Minds Therapy, we contribute by making our sessions flexible and accessible, bridging the gap where public services may be delayed.
I also extend this work through the Minds Therapy YouTube channel, where I share free, practical strategies for resilience and healing—resources that can reach anyone, anywhere.
